New gas hearth appliances typically come equipped with electronic ignition systems. Gas valve and appliance manufacturers offer a wide range of features to meet customer needs. However, the variety can be overwhelming for installers and service technicians. Providing hands-on training to cover all the options is impractical due to logistics and costs. Furthermore, there are so many differences between models that it’s challenging to teach all the information in one class.
To address this issue, we have developed a new electronic ignition class in collaboration with Southeast HPBA. This class will introduce and explain the basics of the four main types of electronic ignition systems produced by Dexen, SIT, and Maxitrol. Utilizing a blend of classroom instruction and video clips, the class aims to provide a clear understanding of what to expect in the field.
The class is divided into four sections. The first section covers the introduction and basic skills necessary to service any brand of electronic ignition. The subsequent sections are dedicated to Dexen, Maxitrol, and SIT valves. Participants can choose to take all four sections or only the specific section or sections that apply to the brands they sell. The total time to complete the entire class is two hours, with each section lasting approximately 30 minutes. Each section has been awarded 0.5 Technical CEUs.
The course can be found in the HE@RTH Online Training Subscription Catalog by searching for “Electronic Ignition” or course number 8520.
Our goal is to provide a foundational understanding of each system to make troubleshooting easier once you understand how the system works.
